The railway line walk is a 1 mile, 200 yard walk covering 12.8 acres, from the centre of Sicklesmere to the Station Hill area of Little Whelnetham. Parking is available at the Station Hill end and the walk links to footpaths at both ends, including a link to the pub at the Sicklesmere end. The walk was formerly part of the branch line from Bury St Edmunds to Long Melford, from Melford one could connect to London's Liverpool Street in a little under two hours. The line closed in 1965. In 1983 the land was acquired by the Parish Council and a group of volunteers turned it from overgrown bramble patch it had become to the treasure it now is. The walk is a haven for wildlife and is home to many species of trees and wild flowers. Dogs are welcome on leads.
